Equipment
Having established a comprehensive,
multi-disciplinary operational plan, the team continued to build up the diagnostic and therapeutic equipment.
Today the centre contains the following state of the art equipment



Diagnostic Equipment:

  • Digital mammography
  • Tommography - The first to be installed in Asia. The centre is working in close collaboration with the company over the clinical design of phase two of the tomography equipment, which is planned to be installed at The Queen Sirikit Centre for Cancer in 2007.
  • Ultrasound
  • Mammogram guided mammotome; used for difficult biopsies, ensuring the most accurate and rapid diagnosis of breast cancer.

   

Radiotherapy Therapeutic Equipment:

  • 3 Linear Accelorators
    [3-Dimensional Linear Accelorators]
    [3-Dimensional Intensity Moderated]

    The equipment includes a respiratory gated radiotherapy facility, which provides the best quality irradiation possible. The equipment also controls the 'spread' of the radiation beam so that only the area on the body requiring treatment is touched by the beam.
  • Multileave Linear Accelorator-especially designed for breast cancer treatment and which provides the best possible cosmetic results.
  • PET Scanner

Operating Theatre Plan:

  • Intra - operative Ultrasound Facilities.
  • Intra - Operative Radiation Facilities.
  • Mammotomy Facilities.
  • Sentinal Node Biopsy Facilities.
The operating theatre will also house an international research project.
 
Pathology Laboratory


A newly and fully equipped pathology laboratory for diagnosis including a 'tissue bank' for cancer biopsy specimens, will be used for valuable research new and revolutionary biomedical waste disposal unit which is environmentally friendly will be launched at the centre.



Other Objectives and Facilities Available
  • Hospice Care - A hospice village is planned for end of life care on a specifically donated piece of land.
  • Prayer Room - is available to all spiritual beliefs.

    The centre has a room for quiet contemplation and player for all religions. The Queen Sirikit Centre for Breast Cancer is open to every race and creed.
  • Support of Her Majesty the Queen's Project for Underpriviledged Women
    Her Majesty's Foundation to help rural women find extra income for their families by silk weaving is actively supported by the centre. Fabrics from the project are used throughout The Queen Sirikit Centre for Breast Cancer.
  • Childrens' Corner
    A fully equipped room has been designated for the children who receive radiotherapy. An experienced group of volunteers co-ordinates play and toys. The children of Shrewsbury International School decorated the room and donated the toys.
    The 9th Floor Conference Facilities and the Lower Level Seminar Facilities Teaching, Research and National and International Conferences.
  • The centre is committed to teaching young doctors and nurses and updating current knowledge of the specialists. The conference and seminar facilities are regularly used. Three to four international meetings are hosted each year, inviting top specialits in the world to teach.
 

  • Research Projects - actively undertaken, including international collaboration.
  • Outreach Project
    In addition to normal outpatient clinics, severely underpriviledged women are screened and brought in to the centre for assessment and treatment. The funding is raised privately.
  • Counseling Rooms
    Used for weekly out-patient and in-patient support.The groups are run by the nurse counselors and also volunteers of the Bangkok Breast Cancer Support Group, who are breast cancer survivors.These groups are valuable in allowing patients to meet and be encouraged by other recovering patients who have already completed treatment.The centre links with outside fully qualified counselors to help patients in their recovery when necessary.

Relatives' Room - available for all relatives to rest and receive counseling if required.



Gallery
The centre has dedicated itself to offering an environment which is aesthetically pleasing for patients; the old decrepit and drab surroundings have been renovated to create a positive atmosphere. 450 paintings and photographs have been donated to the centre by generous donors. Each patient has something visual and uplifting to look at wherever they are in the centre. The 9th floor has been designated a modern art gallery and the lower conference facilities host a collection from well known photographers.
